We all wear masks from time to time in order to survive in contemporary society. Yet, deep within, we know how necessary it is to descend into our inner depths—to fully recharge, to drink from the pond of truth, and to be reborn once again.

This zebra is not wild. The original photograph was taken at Chapultepec Zoo, where I immediately sensed a quiet sadness in its eyes and in the subtle movement of its ears.

I believe that, at some point, we all carry an inner pichicho capable of becoming withdrawn or melancholic, and that it is our responsibility to acknowledge it, protect it, and care for it.
